We were approached by a young couple wishing to create a unique home out of their beautiful 1930’s brick cottage. Though small renovations had been completed the client’s were seeking a large increase in space. The design took advantage of the natural fall of the site to allow for large volume spaces. With the rear of the home facing north the orientation allowed us to open up the rear of the home which in turn created an interaction with the rear yard, bringing the outdoors in. The second floor addition, which accommodates the master bedroom, walk in robe and ensuite is nearly invisible from the street. The new elements were deliberately treated differently from the existing residence to create a bold statement.
